Jo started her sports career as a baseball player. From 1943 to 1950 she played for the Racine Belles in the All-American Girls' Professional Baseball League.
After leaving Baseball, Jo moved to Arizona, where she focused on tennis and golf. Jo was the first Arizona lady to join the LPGA, and won the Arizona State Women's Golf Championship four times. She also taught golf for thirty years at both Scottsdale Community College and Arizona State University.
In 1971, Jo helped create the Arizona Silver Belle Championship; a tournament for high school and college girls in Arizona and the Southwestern United States. Jo also worked as a consultant on the film "A League of Their Own." She has been inducted into the Arizona Golf Hall of Fame and the National Women's Baseball Hall of Fame.
