On April 14, 1998 in Cross City, FL he married Frances L. Eaves. She survives along with 11 children, April, Angie, Amy Carter, Rosemary Hawks, Elden Fey, Jason Price West, James (Sarah Sanders) Fey, Nicole West, Cheryl (Tony) Wilson West, Elizabeth (Chris Lyles) West and Michael Douglas West; numerous grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. Also surviving is his mother, Shirley Lee West; 4 siblings, Dan West, (Twins) Jerry and Terry West, Karen Sutphin and his 5 furry friends, Diesel, Buddy, Peanut, Sissy and Oliver the cat. He was preceded in death by his father, Reese Dale West and a sister, Victoria West.
Douglas served in the US Navy and received an honorable discharge. He enjoyed watching NASCAR, visiting the casinos and attending Pow Wows. He was a citizen of Thunderbolt Chickamauga Indian Nation and was formerly employed at Allied Van Lines.
Cremation will take place and gathering will be held at his residence at a later date. Elkhart Cremation Services is entrusted with his care.
Memorial contributions may be given to the family to help defray cremation expenses.
