September 29, 1940 - March 21, 2020 Mr. Donald Lewis Hurst, 79 of Poplar Grove, passed from this life on Saturday, March 21, 2020 at his home with his sons by his side following a short illness. He was born at Willailla in Rockcastle County, KY on September 29, 1940 the son of Lewis and Ruby McKinney Hurst. He retired after 27 years of service as a timekeeper for the Kentucky Department of Transportation. He was a member of Poplar Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed farming and gardening, as well as spending time with his family, friends, and neighbors.
He is survived by three sons, Garry Hurst and wife Sheila, Barry Hurst and wife Stephanie, and Donnie Hurst, all of Brodhead; four grandchildren, Nicholas Leger and wife Amber, Jason Leger and wife Kayla, Derreck Hurst and wife Tiffany, and Chris Hurst and wife Monica; and ten great grandchildren, Liv, Kennedy, Jacob, Kayden, Xavier, Madden, Konnor, Canaan, Tyson, and Emma. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ora Lee Gooch Hurst; and an older infant brother. Burial in the Poplar Grove Cemetery, Richlands Rd, Brodhead, Ky.
