William "Bill" Irvin Shepherd, beloved husband, father, father-in-law, grandfather, brother, friend, and son of God, went into the arms of Jesus on March 21, 2020. He was 68 years old.

Bill was born July 14, 1951 to Hershel and Marjorie (nee Jordan) Shepherd in Bertram.

He grew up in old-town Georgetown, graduating from GHS in 1970. While in high school, he began dating the love of his life, Dale (nee Lehmann), and they were married August 19, 1972. Bill was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Walburg in 1972, where he remained an active and faithful member. Bill and Dale were blessed with two daughters, Brandi and Megan, and together, they called Georgetown home.

For over 38 years, Bill worked at Georgetown Railroad, primarily as a mechanical foreman. A skilled engine mechanic, he prided himself in being able to take apart and reassemble entire train engines. He took the same liberties at home and could often be found inventing and building useful things, fixing anything broken, tinkering in his workshop, or tending to his yard. After retiring from the railroad, Bill worked for State Farm for seven additional years, traveling to photograph homes for Don Homeyer's office. This time was special to him because it meant working closely with Dale.

Bill loved being in nature and enjoyed fishing, hunting, owning boats, and spending time on the water. In their "empty nest" years, Bill and Dale loved traveling, often with family and friends, and took more than twenty ocean cruises together. He adored his four grandsons and loved spending time with them. They adored him, too, and being called "Popi" was one of his most favorite things in life.

In December 2018, Bill was diagnosed with glioblastoma and fought bravely and humbly for the next 15 months. His faith in God and his love for his family and friends continued to grow as he worked to overcome this yet incurable disease, and he continued to look for opportunities to praise God and love his family, even as his health declined.

Left to honor Bill's memory are his beloved wife of over 47 years, Dale, his adoring daughters and sons-in-law Brandi & Jeff Schwertner of The Colony and Megan & Kelly Erhardt of Arlington, and his precious grandsons Luke, Liam, and Levi Schwertner and Austin Erhardt.

He is also survived by his sisters and brothers-in-law Thelma & Bob Lippold of Portland and Kathy & Randy Underwood of Liberty Hill, by his brother- and sister-in-law Ron & Sharon Lehman of Georgetown, and by numerous nephews, nieces, great-nephews, great-nieces, and friends.

Rejoicing with him in heaven are his parents, Hershel & Marjorie Shepherd, and his father- and mother-in-law, Walter & Margaret Lehmann.

Immediate family will honor Bill at a graveside interment at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in Walburg. A celebration of his life will be held at St. Peter at a later date. Donations can be made in Bill's name to the CareBox Program or to St. Peter Lutheran Church.
