Lawrence E. Roth was born November 29, 1914, in St. Louis, MO and died February 4, 2009. He had lived in Wenatchee for 22 years. In 1939, he moved from St. Louis to San Diego, CA, where he worked for 35 years, as an aircraft supervisor for General Dynamics. He was involved in building 5-24 bombers and the F-14. In 1940, he married his fiance, Lena Rufkahr and their marriage lasted for 67 years. They had three sons, John of Oceanside, CA, Tom of Seattle and Joe, who died of melanoma cancer at age 21. Lawrence had three sisters and two brothers, Doris Mech and John (deceased), Esther Bucklee of Twin Falls, ID, Jeanne Bastian of Pea Ridge, AR and William of House Springs, MO. Lawrence was a wonderful husband, a special and loving father, an excellent dancer, a builder, a gardener, a great "fixer" and an extremely hard worker. He built two homes and four apartments on his own. Larry had an abiding sense of humor and was always quick to come back with a one-liner. In retirement, Larry moved with Lena to Jerome, ID, because he wanted to hunt and fish. He got to do lots of both during the ten years he lived in Idaho. From Jerome, he and Lena moved to Wenatchee to be closer to their son, Tom and his wife, Kim (Hildebrand).
He leaves behind his wife; two sons; a daughter-in-law; four grandchildren; and two great-grandkids. Larry's sweet and gentle soul will be sorely missed by his family and his many friends.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday, February 7, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 625 S. Elliott, Wenatchee. Memorials may be made to St. Vincent De Paul.
