Michael was a retired coal miner and member of the UMWA. He was enjoyed spending time with his family and trading horses. He was of the Church of God faith.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sons, Larry, Mikie and Barry; three sisters, Betty Smith, June Naperstick and JoAnn Wright; and three brothers, Bootsie, Robert and Larry.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret Taylor McKinney; children, Kermit (Peanut) McKinney and wife Charlene of Herndon, Jackie McKinney of Lashmeet and Sharon Flowers and husband John of Statesville, NC; sister, Mildred Tate of Missouri; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Out of concerns for public health due to COVID-19 the services for Mr. McKinney will be private on Monday, March 23, 2020 at the Bailey-Kirk Funeral Home in Princeton with Evangelist Donnie Hale officiating. Interment will follow at the Bailey-McKinney Cemetery at Clarks Gap
