Tommy "Tom" Dwight Newton passed away at his Derby, Iowa home on Wednesday, 4 March 2020.
Tom was born at his childhood home in Ringgold County (near Beaconsfield, Iowa) on 15 August 1935, to Don G. and Goldie Fern Newton. He was the ninth of their ten children. They were a close-knit, hardworking family.
Tom married Floris in June 1957. They set up housekeeping in Walnut, Iowa, where they lived for fourteen years before moving to Lucas County in 1972. Their union was blessed by the addition of three children, Melodie, Michael and Rhonda. After leaving the farm in 1977, Tom and Floris next moved their family into Chariton, Iowa. There, Tom was employed at Johnson Machine Works where he worked until retirement. However, he and Floris had moved their family to Derby, Iowa in 1986, where they have since remained.
In addition to his parents, Don and Fern Newton, Tom was predeceased by his grandson, Christopher Eric Poole; plus siblings, Wayne Newton, Lester (Gen) Newton, Artie (Shirley) Newton, Owen Newton, sisters Donella (Chet) Showers, and Ardella (Paul) Smith.
Left to cherish his memory are Tom's wife of sixty-two years, Floris Newton; children, Melodie (Jeff) Poole, Rhonda (Scott) Howard and son Michael (Jackie Green); grandchildren, Amber (Garin) Wilson; Chelsey (Shawn) Phipps; Dusty (Cassie Kennedy) Poole; Jairus Howard; Josh Howard; Miranda (Ryan) Halverson; and Zach (Hannah) Newton; and fifteen great-grandchildren. Also surviving Tom are his brothers, Hugh Newton, Al (Colleen) Newton and Gary (Lucy) Newton; sister-in-law, Irma Lee Newton; and a host of nephews and nieces.
Please join the family for Tom's Celebration of Life service at 2 P.M., on Saturday, 14 March 2020, at the Derby Community Center, Derby Iowa, Saturday, March 14, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. with lunch following. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
