Ruth D. Crosby, 84, of Albion, NE, passed away on Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Boone County Health Center, Albion, NE

In consideration of the COVID-19 restrictions currently in place, there will be a private family service held with burial at Rose Hill Cemetery in Albion. At the request of the family, there will be no visitation at this time. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.

Ruth D. Crosby, daughter of Robert and Edrey (Colfack) Schilousky was born on September 6, 1935 at Elgin, NE. She started school in Petersburg and then moved to Grand Island at age 7, when her parents divorced. Ruth’s High School years were at Albion, where she graduated in 1953.

On April 10, 1953 she married Jim Crosby at Trinity Methodist Church in Grand Island. Jim and Ruth had two children, James Craig and Christy Lynn and raised Roy Schilousky as their son, when his mother passed away. He was 3 months old.

Jim and Ruth started the Hobby House in 1962. They retired from business in 1998 after 36 years. The highlight of Ruth’s’ business years was when she invented her crystal angels and jewelry pins. Ruth sold her ideas to the Shafaii Craft Co.

Ruth was always involved in her church and community. As her children grew up, she was a cub pack leader, girl scout helper, Sunday School teacher for 17 years, Bible School teacher, MYF co-leader with Jim, helped with Confirmation classes, circle offices, and she helped start the Christian Woman’s club in Albion. Ruth led craft classes at Harmony Home for over 40 years. She was on the Harmony Homes Board for 13 years, planning commission, and Woman’s Club Officer. After having breast cancer in 2000, Ruth started the Women’s Cancer Support in 2001 and led it for 17 years. Ruth worked with the Teammates for 13 years. She met weekly with 3 teammates in the 13 years. She was on the Mission Possible Board and volunteered there for several years.

Ruth loved her Bible Studies with friends and the fun times of getting together with friends for breakfast and lunches. The best times were the family trips and family get togethers.

Ruth is survived by three children: Jim and wife Gina (Newbold-Crosby) Crosby of Kearney, NE; Christy and husband David Pratt of Kearney, NE; Roy and wife Deb Schilousky of Albion, NE; four grandchildren: Jackie (Brandon) Hauff of Kearney, NE; Charley (Michelle) Pratt of Kearney, NE; Callie (James) Gale of Kearney, NE; Jamie (Tyler) Fead of Grand Island, NE; three great-grandchildren: Callen Hauff of Kearney, NE; Kegan and Kenzie Gale of Kearney, NE; brother Ralph (Sandy) Schilousky of Cheyenne, WY; half-sisters Gloria (Loren) Reinke and Joyce (Mike) Prothman; step-sister Sandy (Jim) Morby of Kansas; along with many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Jim; 2 infant brothers Alvie and David; brother Robert Schilousky; step-father Cecil Sheets; step-mother Jeanette Schilousky; half-brothers Derold and Terry Schilousky; and two nephews.
