Evelyn Marie Erickson was born February 20, 1935 on the family farm in Clay Township, Renville County, North Dakota. She was the first of four children born to Clarence & Mabel (Nelson) Erickson. Her mother died in 1941 and her father married Mabel Boutin so two more children were born. She was raised on the farm and like other children attended country school. After completing her studies, she took a job as a nurse’s assistant at the Kenmare Deaconess Hospital in Kenmare.
On October 26, 1955, she was united in marriage to Arthur Gustav Lee at the Carpio Lutheran Church, Carpio, ND. They made their home in Carpio, where together they farmed and raised their five children, Pamela, Dwight, Brenda, Gary and Becky. Arthur passed away on May 16, 2017 at their daughter’s home in Sawyer.
Evelyn was a member of the Carpio Lutheran Church where she was an active member of the Ladies Guild, Carpio Senior Citizens, and the Clarence McCormack American Legion Auxiliary #195 for a number of years. She was an avid quilter, an accomplished baker, and known for her homemade buns, cookies and bars. She also enjoyed watching and identifying birds. But her greatest joy in life was time spent with her family.
Evelyn is survived by: son’s Dwight Lee and Gary (Tina) Lee; daughters Pamela Lee, Brenda (Myron) Smith and Becky (Mitchell) Hedberg; ten grandchildren: Shannon Triplett, Valerie Triplett Adams and Eric Triplett, Clinton and Cody Smith, Dustin, Dallas, Lane, Kobie and Dylan Lee and Carly (Lee) Labere; 18 great grandchildren; sisters, Vivian Helmers and Linda (Monte) Routledge; sisters-in-law, Helen (Bob) Hallesy and Betty Routledge; and numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband Arthur G. Lee, brother “Bud” Erickson, Merrill Erickson; brother-in-law Albin “Jr.” Broden, Leroy Routledge, and Ben Hamers; a great granddaughter, Samantha Vogel and a half sister Yvonne “Toots” (Jonnie) Bergeson.
