Rebecca was the daughter of John Gassaway and Nancy Greenwood. Rebecca's father John was born 1786 in MD. He was a brother or cousin to Newton's mother Nancy Gassaway. John died in 1826 in Shelby Co, KY. Rebecca's mother Nancy was born 1783 in VA and married John Gassaway Feb.4, 1805 in Shelby Co, Ky. Rebecca married Newton McManis June 26,1838 in Shelby Co, Ky. They were parents of Andrew J. 1840, Juliet 1841, John 1844, and Taylor 1847. Newton and Rebecca moved to Coles Co, IL before the Civil War with their children and their families. After the war, oldest son Andrew went back to Ky to marry Mary Ellen Tingle and they went to Sumner Co, Ks to settle. The other sibling and families soon joined Andrew and Mary in Kansas, then the the parents, Newton and Rebecca. They spent their last years near their children and grandchildren in Sumner Co, Ks. She died in Sumner Co, Ks 1882
