CHARLES G PAYNE
The funeral for Charles G Payne, 79, of Enid, will be 10 a m. Tuesday, July 24, 2007, at Emmanuel Baptist Church, Wade Burleson, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park cemetery. Visitation with the family will be today between 6-8 p.m. at Brown-Cummings Funeral Home.
Charles was born Dec. 5, 1927 in Enid, Okla. to Charles W. and May O'Brate Payne. He passed away July 20, 2007, in Enid. He married Betty Elaine Eades on June 1, 1946 at Liberal, Kan. She preceded him in death March 2, 1987. He later married Verna (Renfro) Balch of Enid, Okla. on June 3, 1990.
He worked for Bond Bakery for 30 years. After retirement, he worked for Union Texas and American Exploration as a pumper for 12 years. In 1985, he was instrumental in organizing the Bond Bakery Reunion that continues on today. He was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church. Charles enjoyed doing woodcrafts along with wife, Verna, selling their crafts at craft shows around Oklahoma. Charlie was well known for his woodworking ski8lls. He never turned anyone away when they came to him to repair a broken table, dresser drawer or any kind of broken household item.
He is survived by his wife, Verna, of the home; three sons, Chuck Payne, Jr. (wife Kathy). Mitchell Payne (wife Linda), all of Enid and Randall Balch (wife Donna) of Fort Smith, Ark.; three daughters, Rebecca (Becky) Payne, Enid, Joy Cooper (husband, Mark) of Fayetteville, N.C., and Jan Organ (husband Mark) of Greenwood, Ark.;12 grandchildren, Chris Payne, Toni Klein (husband Jamie), Molly Payne, Blain Payne, Tracy Wilson, Stacy Arndt (husband Brian), Raina Finley (husband Jason), Heather Scoggins (husband Neal), Megan Organ, Jennifer, Sarah and Beth Cooper; five great grandchildren, Morgan Klein, Ryan Klein, Colin Arndt, Bryson Finley and Lexie Cooper.
He is survived by three brothers, Barton, Glen and George and three sisters, Mergie Doll, Karen Theilen and Lucy Webster.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, one sister and one grandchild.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to Emmanuel Christian School.
