God opened His arms on March 15, 2020 to embrace WILLIAM KEVIN JEFFRIES and whispered in his ear “It’s time to come home”. He was surrounded by his sister, niece and two friends when he answered that call. Kevin was born June 24, 1959 in Newark, New Jersey to the late William C. and Agnes Jeffries. At an early age, he was baptized at Shiloh Baptist Church, Newark where he was a faithful member of the Young Peoples Choir, Usher Board and Shiloh’s Youth Fellowship. Kevin is a product of the Newark Education System, graduating from South 8 th Street Elementary School then in 1977 from Barringer High School where he participated in their football and track/field teams and continued to attend the school's Thanksgiving Football Games each year. As a graduate of Barringer High School, he became a part of their Alumni Association, helping with organizing events and keeping everyone in the loop. Kevin was a hardworking man. He held jobs at Bambergers (Macy’s), Bonwit Teller, Prudential and other various employers. He found his dream job as an office clerk at the law offices of Javerbaum Wurgaft in Newark NJ. During his adult years, he participated in a Transit softball league. He held various positions on the Tigers team for over 20 years including, player, coach and manager. His uniform number was #42. He proudly wore his team’s gear. Even after suffering a stroke in 2013 that resulted in some restrictions and limitations, he still participated in the league in some capacity. Cherishing his memories are hissister, Debra M. Jeffries-Goode (Harrison),step- mother Barbara M. Jeffries, nephew Lamar M. Danzey, niece Dezarae M. Goode who he affectionately called Spanky, companion Valerie Brown, aunts Armintha Manley (NJ), Tabitha Jones (MD) and uncle Michael Smith(NJ), goddaughter Alexandra Hayes-Foote (NC), Tigers softball team, Barringer’s Alumni Association, South 7th Street friends, a vast number of loving relatives and caring friends, his barber Sam Austin who cut his curly locks for over 50 years and of course his canine companion Chico. His goddaughter Jillian Norine Foster predeceased him.
