Obituary- 26 Jan 1996: Earl C. Kearbey, 89, of Poplar Bluff died Thursday, Jan. 25, 1996, at Lucy Lee Healthcare System. Mr. Kearbey was born April 19, 1906 in Butler County. He received a bachelor of science degree from Southeast Missouri State College in 1941, and a master's degree in 1952 from George Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee. He had served two terms as Superintendant of Carter County. He taught 10 years at Ellsinore schools, nine years at Poplar Bluff Junior High School, 15 years at St. Louis County and retired from Hazelwood High School in 1970. He was a member and Past Mater of Masonic Lodge No. 579 in Grandin. He was also a member of the Scottish Rite in St. Louis, the Retired Teachers Association of Missouri, the RSVP Chorus, the First Baptist Church and the Andrews Sunday School class. An Army veteran of World War II, he was listed in Who's Who in the Midwest in 1967.
He was married to Dorothy M. Davis on Aug. 16, 1935, in Poplar Bluff, she survives. Also surviving is one sister, Velma L. Kearbey of Poplar Bluff.
The Rev John Gilbert officiated at the funeral services. Burial will be in Joplin Cemetery in Carter County.
