US Congressman. He was admitted to the bar in 1854 and commenced law practice in West Liberty, Kentucky. From 1854 to 1858, he was prosecuting attorney of Morgan County and during the Civil War served as First Lieutenant adjutant of the 10th Kentucky Confederate Cavalry. He was a member of the State house of representatives, 1867 to 1871 and Commonwealth attorney for the thirteenth judicial district 1872 to 1878. In 1891, he was elected as a Democrat to the Fifty-second Congress and served until his death.
