Westminster – Edward Edgar Simmons, 91, widower of the late Evon Simmons, passed away March 18, 2020 at Prisma Health-Cottingham Hospice House.
Born in Oconee County, SC, he was the son of the late George and Ida James Simmons. Edward was the former operator of the Westminster Texaco and was a veteran of the U.S. Army where he served in WWII and in Japan.
Edward is survived by his son, Richard Simmons (Jane); step-son, Andy Holbrooks (Tammy); daughters, Kathy Blackwell, and Diane Simmons; step-daughter, Janie Freeman (Chip); twenty-two grandchildren; thirty-seven great- grandchildren and four great- great grandchildren.
In addition to his parents and wife, Edward is preceded in death by his son, Eugene “Gene” Simmons and grand daughter, Amanda Blackwell.
A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 am, Friday, March 20, 2020 at the Chapel of Sandifer Funeral home with burial to follow at Hopewell Baptist Church Cemetery with Military Honors. The family will receive friends 6:00 – 8:00 pm, Thursday, March 19, 2020 at Sandifer Funeral Home.
