Paula Thompson 50, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away on Friday, March 13, 2020, at home & her body was found Wednesday March 18, 2020.

Paula Marie Thompson was born on April 28, 1969 in Des Moines, Iowa; she was the daughter of William Dean and Sandra Sue (Hutt) Thompson . She attended School in the Des Moines School District graduating with Lincoln High School Class of 1987. She had resided in Des Moines and worked as a Claims Processor for Nationwide Insurance. She enjoyed collecting Coca Cola memorabilia, Cookie Jars and many other things she could find while going to garage–sales.

Left to cherish her memory are her sons, Adam (Sarah) Seiberling of Missouri and Chris Thompson of Des Moines, Iowa, grandchildren, Samantha McCleary, Jace Seiberling, John Seiberling, father, William (Barbara)Thompson and aunts and uncles, Raleigh Hutt Jr., Sue Grogan, Carolyn Nash, Lewis Palmer Jr., Bob Hoopes, and her cousins.

In death she rejoins her mother,Sandra Sue Freestone & her step father Richard Dean Freestone.

Des Moines man fatally beat his mother with crowbar, stayed with body for 5 days before reporting death, court records show.

Christopher William Thompson, 32, told detectives that he killed his mother, Paula Thompson, in the home they shared at 219 Pleasantview Drive after an argument Friday March 13, according to a criminal complaint filed by Des Moines police. He waited for almost a week inside their Indianola Hills neighborhood home before reporting her death.
"Christopher stayed in the house until (Wednesday) March 18 when he called his mother's friend," the complaint states. "Christopher told (his mother's friend) that he had killed his mother with a crowbar and that she needed to call the police."

Thompson told police he became angry during a dispute, grabbed a crowbar and struck his mom, causing her to fall to the ground. He then stood over her and repeatedly hit the 50-year-old woman in the head "until she stopped moving," the complaint states.

The man then cleaned the makeshift weapon and moved his mother's body into her bedroom. He also killed his mom's cat, by hitting it with the same crowbar, and dumped its body in a garbage can, court records show.

At approximately 3:29 p.m., Christopher W. Thompson presented himself to the Polk County Jail, 1985 NE 51st Place, Des Moines, Iowa. Thompson was transported to the Des Moines Police Department to be interviewed by detectives.
Des Moines Police Department detectives learned that on Friday, 13 March 2020, Thompson and his mother, 50 year old Des Moines resident Paula Thompson, were in an argument. During that argument, Thompson violently attacked his mother, resulting in her death.
Thompson has been arrested and charged with one count of Murder – 1st Degree. He will be booked into the Polk County Jail shortly.

Des Moines police discovered Paula Thompson's body just after noon Wednesday after a welfare check at her home. Christopher Thompson was almost immediately sought as a witness in the case, according to a news release.
He turned himself in Wednesday afternoon and has been charged with first-degree murder. Christopher Thompson is being held at the Polk County Jail on a $1 million bond and has a preliminary hearing scheduled for March 27, court records show. He is waiting to be appointed a public defender, according to court records.

Christopher Thompson has some history of violence and was on probation when charged with his latest crimes, according to court records. In 2013, he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault with the display or use of a weapon, an aggravated misdemeanor, and was given a suspended prison sentence.

Thompson was charged in May 2014 with willful injury, a felony, after Des Moines police say he intentionally struck a woman with his car and did not stop to provide aid. He pleaded guilty in 2016 to assault causing serious injury and was given a deferred judgment, probation and orders to obtain drug and mental health assessments.
