Robert Louis Herring, the son of Acie James and Lucinda Pearl Autury Herring, was born October 15, 1937, in Martinville, AR.
He was a member of the Lynwood Baptist Church in Cape Girardeau, MO, Kiwanian and Rotarian. He graduated from Gideon High School in 1955. He went on to attend Southeast Missouri University, University of Missouri in Columbia and Southern Illinois University. He was a long time educator and administrator. His career included teaching at Gideon, Principal at Clarkton, Superintendent of the Special School District of Pemiscot County, Area Supervisor of Instruction of Southeast Region MO DESE, Assistant Superintendent of Jackson SD and the Director of Student Teaching of SEMO. Also, for many years he served as Pastor at the Bertrand Baptist Church and the Ilmo Baptist Church.
On December 26, 1960, he was united in marriage to Barbara Ann Bentley. She survives.
Mr. Herring died on Tuesday, March 17, 2020, in Cape Girardeau, MO, at the age 82 years, 8 months and 17 days.
He is survived by his wife of Cape Girardeau; 3 daughters, 3 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 3 sisters, Flossie Harrison, Jewel Wakely and Helen Ayers; 4 brothers, Arvie Herring, OL Herring, Herril Herring and Billy Joe Herring and 10 nieces and nephews.
