Richard “Cotton” Wayne Booker was born March 12, 1942 in Waynesville, MO to the late Martin “Bud” and Marybelle Booker. He went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 17th in Licking, MO. He accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord & Savior in 1966 and attended the Pentecostal Holiness Church in Licking.
Cotton spent his life working in the construction trade, logging, and as a head sawyer but his favorite was logging for the Moncrief family. Cotton was an avid outdoorsman, who spent his time hunting, fishing, and trapping; he passed that knowledge on to his sons and grandchildren. Anyone who knew Cotton knew what a storyteller and prankster he was. He always had a piece of paper twisted into someone’s nose or ear. After retirement he enjoyed gardening and sitting on the porch, looking at wildlife.
He is survived by his wife Roma Booker; previous wife, Alma; son, Steve Booker; step children, Mike and Melody Mendenhall, Mark Mendenhall, and Debbie and Danny Venable; brothers, James “Red” and Eva Booker, Larry and Sondra Booker; sisters, Lena Mesplay and Rosie Brookshire Stoffer; along with numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren and nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Lawrence Booker; and sons, Tony Booker and Marty Booker.
A visitation will be held on Thursday, March 19, 2020 from 6:00 PM-8:00 PM at Fox Funeral Home, 128 S. Main St., Licking, MO 65542. A funeral service will be held on Friday, March 20, 2020 at 10:30 am at the Licking Pentecostal Holiness Church, 310 Walnut St., Licking, MO 65542 with Pastor David Jett, Rev. Erin McConnell, and Bro. Nick Myers officiating. Pallbearers are Ronnie Moncrief, Bryon Kinder, Jerry Jones, Aaron Willbanks, Mike Mendenhall, and Mark Mendenhall. Interment will follow at Boone Creek Cemetery.
