Mrs. Ann Mason Whisnant Roberts, 84, passed away peacefully at Covenant Village on Sunday, March 15, 2020. She was born in Gastonia on February 8, 1936, the daughter of the late Howard Preston and Virginia Timberlake Whisnant.
Ann attended Ashley High School in Gastonia, and was a graduate of Stratford Hall Preparatory School, and Stratford College in Danville, VA. She married William Stuart "Bill" Roberts in 1957. She was a longtime member of First Presbyterian Church where she was active in Circle. She volunteered in PTA and Girl Scouts. Ann helped Bill and son Stuart operate their Carolina Garden business in Gastonia for many years. She was a loving, fun mother to her 3 children and all of their friends. Ann and Bill loved spending time at their Holden Beach vacation home, additionally she enjoyed jaunts to Holden Beach with dear friends Hazel, Jean B, Ms. Peggy, Ann Riggs, and Skeet and Barbara Melvin.
In addition to her parents, Ann was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years, William Stuart Roberts, and her daughter, Sara Winston Roberts.
Survivors include her sons and spouses, Stuart and Melissa Roberts of Gastonia; Preston and Lynn Roberts of Rural Hall, NC; brother and sister-in-law, Bill and Joan Whisnant of Winterville, NC; granddaughters, Rebecca Roberts Barilovits (Stephen IV) of Hillsboro OR; Caroline Stuart Williams (Jonathan) of Clover, SC; Rachel Roberts Joyce (Jimmy) of Cary, NC; Eliza Roberts of Rural Hall, NC; great-grandchildren, Avery Katherine Joyce, and Stephen Barilovits V (due in April 7); numerous nieces and nephews. A private graveside service was held for the family. A memorial service to celebrate Ann's life will be held at First Presbyterian Church at a later date.
