Holly Grace Mullins, 61, of Plano, Texas, passed away on Friday, September 15, 2017. She is survived by her son, Perry, his wife, Sarah, and their son, Lucas; her mother Hope; her brother and sister-in-law, Tommy and Janet; her nephew, Casey, his wife Jackie, and their children, Jaxson, Ethan, and Ella. Holly is preceded in death by her husband, Jon, and their daughter, Amber, as well as her father, Harry.

Holly was born on January 24, 1956 to Harry and Hope Vayro in a small town in southern Maryland, where she grew up. In 1982, she settled down there and was married to her husband, Jon, and they had two children together. Holly worked as a teacher, and then ran a small daycare out of her home until 1996, when she moved to Dallas. She again worked as an early childhood teacher until she was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia in 2013.

Holly was best known for her deep love for children, especially those she taught. She spent her weekends planning game and craft ideas and going to the library to pick out books for her classes. To see her come alive with a group of children was an incredible experience. She also loved to cook, and was known for her pie crust and crab cakes, among other things. Her food was not known for being particularly healthy, but there were rarely complaints. Holly was also a dedicated member of her church, serving on the altar guild and attending faithfully for years. She was kind-hearted and caring, and she had a contagious joy in her heart. Holly will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 21st at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Nativity Episcopal Church in Plano (2200 18th St., Plano, Texas 75074). In lieu of flowers, donations in Holly’s memory may be made to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (www.theaftd.org), or to Holy Nativity Episcopal Church.
