July 17, 2008 Patricia McKnight Baggett, of Manlius, died July 17, 2008. Born in Syracuse, Patricia was a 1961 graduate of the Convent School in Syracuse and a 1965 graduate of Rosary Hill College in Buffalo. Upon graduation from Rosary Hill, Patricia secured a job with the East Syracuse-Minoa School District as a first-grade teacher. After having worked in this district for many years, Patricia continued to work as an elementary school teacher for the parochial school system. Several years later, Patricia began a career change, which led to a certification in ESL from Le Moyne College. This certification led to a master's in reading education from SUNY Oswego. She then went on to teach at Onondaga Community College. She developed and taught courses in ESL. Because of her expertise in the ESL field, she was invited to speak at Oxford University, England, in the spring of 2006. Patricia took an active role in the church. Her service included becoming president of the St. Therese Society, serving as a member of the Parish Council and teaching in the CCD program. Patricia is survived by her husband, Richard; her children, Patrick, Jennifer and Amy; a son-in-law, Jim Corl; and her two grandchildren, James and Jonathan. Calling hours will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday, July 20, 2008, at Newell-Fay Funeral Home, 8171 Cazenovia Road, Manlius. A prayer service will begin on Monday, July 21, 2008, at 9 a.m. at the funeral home, followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, Syracuse.
