She was born Dec. 17, 1919 in Salamanca, N.Y., the daughter of the late Ralph John and Mary Mould Metzler.
A New Castle High School graduate, Mrs. Carpenter was a homemaker. She was a Girl Scout leader, a board member of YMCA and taught class at YDC and YMCA. She was a member of the Trinity Episcopal Church, where she was a past president of the Trinity Guild.
Her husband, Donald Earl Carpenter, whom she married Oct. 25, 1941, passed away April 4, 2002.
She is survived by two daughters, Candace Haski of Edinburg, Pa., and Lynn Rabosky of Poland; a sister, Mary Gerlach of Pharr, Texas; 12 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Besides her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Ralph John Metzler and Theodore Paul Metzler; and two sisters, Dorothy Shaffer and Frances Stewart.
Calling hours will be from 6 to 8 p.m. today and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the R. Cunningham Funeral Home, Wilmington Road in New Castle.
There will be a service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Episcopal Church with Father Dennis A. Blauser officiating.
Burial will be at Castle View Gardens.
