Barbara Jean (Groves) Lucas ,88, of Decatur passed away peacefully Saturday March 7, 2020 at St. Mary's Hospital, after a short illness.

Barbara was born May 2, 1931, in Decatur, to James Roscoe and Williafred (Walts) Groves.

She enjoyed crocheting afghans and taking special care of her yard and house. Her neighbors Joe and Charlie Lynch, Jen, Jeff and kids were her caring mowers and yard helpers. She also enjoyed having many part-time jobs. She was a supervisor and cafeteria lady at Stevenson Great School for many years. She worked as a bartender at Hardhat Inn and Curly’s Bar where she made many lifelong friends and family came together to meet. She also was a food sampler at many local grocery stores for years. She enjoyed getting her hair done every Wednesday by Sandy.

Barbara was first and foremost a loving mother of her four children, James (Stacy) Lucas, Michael Lucas, Matthew Lucas, all of Decatur and Trish (David) Besand of Cedar Lake, IN; many grandkids, great-grandchildren; a sister Janie, in Kansas City, Kansas; and her sister-in-law, Donna.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her step-mother; siblings; several cousins, nephews and several grandfur babies, especially latest Sandro.

She will be missed by everyone who knew her friendly loving non hatred soul. Special thanks to meals on wheels in with whoever helped in her care the past few months and years.

Graveside services to celebrate the life of Barbara Lucas will be a 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 18, 2020, at Graceland Cemetery, for close family and friends. Due to coronavirus, and closing of bars and restaurants, the benefit for her at Curly's Bar will be postponed to a later date.
