PERCY W. GEBHART, 54, PROMINENT BUILDER AND BUSINESS MAN DIED SUDDENLY AT 7:15 OCLOCK THURSDAY NIGHT IN HIS HOME, 1815 E CANTRELL STREET FROM A PARALYTIC STROKE. HE HAD BEEN IN FAILING HEALTH FOR THE LAST FIVE YEARS BUT HIS CONDITION WAS NOT SERIOUS UNTIL WEDNESDAY MORNING WHEN HE BECAME ILL.
HE WAS BORN OCT 19, 1875 IN DECATUR AND HE HAS BEEN ACTIVE IN CIVIC AND SOCIAL AFFAIRS FOR MANY YEARS. FROM 1904 UNTIL 1913 HE OPERATED AN ANTI TRUST GROCERY IN NORTH MORAN STREET AND ALSO IN THE GEBHART BLOCK. UNTIL THE LAST FOUR YEARS HE WAS INTERESTED IN MOVING PICTURE HOUSE BUSINESS AT ONE TIME HAVING OWNED AND OPERATED THE ALHAMBRE, CRESCENT AND OKLAND SHOWS. HE BUILT THE ALBAMBRA BUIDING.
DURING THE LAST FEW YEARS HE HAS BEEN LOOKING AFTER HIS BUSINESS AFFAIRS AND JUST RECENTLY HE COMPLETED THE 30TH HOUSE WHICH HE HAS BUILT AND SOLD IN DECATUR.
HE WAS A MEMBER OF MODERN WOODMEN, KNIGHTS OF PYTHIAS, RED MEN, ODD FELLOWS AND THE UNITED BRETHREN CHURCH. HE CONTRIBUTED FREELY TO CHURCH, SCHOOL AND CHARITY WORK IN DECATUR.
BESIDES HIS WIDOW, LORA GEBHART HE LEAVES THREE SONS, ADAM, PAUL AND JACK, TWO DAUGHTERS, MRS. PEARL OWEN, SUSSEX, WIS AND MRS. BESSIE PECK, LAKE WORTH, FLA AND THREE BROTHERS, HARVEY S. GEBHART, GUESSIE, AND GROVER C. GEBHART ALL OF DECATUR.
THE BODY WAS REMOVED TO MONSONS TO BE PREPARED FOR BURIAL.
