Alphonso Allen "Al" Givens, 95, departed this life on Wednesday, June 27, 2012, at his residence in Afton. He was born on February 7, 1917, in Afton, a son of the late John Lewis Givens and Sophia Givens.

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Clara Belle Givens in 2007.

He is survived by his loving children, Linda Walker and James, Barbara Givens, Gayle Turner and Jim, Alphonso Givens Jr., Calvin Givens, John Givens and Wilma Johnson (Nathon). He is also survived by four grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

A funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, June 30, 2012, at the Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel in Lovingston with Pastor Loretta Wyant officiating. Interment will follow at the Givens family cemetery in Afton. Arrangements are by the Wells/Sheffield Funeral Chapel of Lovingston.
