Joyce Ann Rankin (nee: Fleming), 70 years of age of Kipton, born April, 8, 1943 in Hemphill, Ky., Letcher Co., passed away Saturday, March 15, 2014 in her home with family, following a short illness. The plant lady of Kipton is now in partnership with God in the Lord’s gardens.

Her primary focus in life was that of being a homemaker, her family was her priority. She was an active member of Henrietta United Methodist Church where she served with several church ministries. She organized the Burke family reunion for 25 years. Joyce was an avid gardener, her other hobbies included traveling, reading and crossword puzzles. She was a seeker of knowledge. Her greatest joy was her family, and the time she spent with them. She especially love attending all of her grandchildren’s activities.

Survivors include her husband of fifty-two years Thomas Rankin; her son Mark Thomas (Dionne) Rankin of Oberlin; her daughters Kristina Ann (Mark) Brunk of Amherst, Dawn Marie Rogala of Birmingham; her grandchildren Devin, Marcus, Drew, Savannah, Justin, Dalaney, Derric, Karissa, Melissa, and Noah, and one great grandson Milo; and several perennial gardens.

She is, also, survived by her parents Orville Lee and Rosie Jeanette Fleming, (Nee: Burke); her sisters Ima Jean (Carl) Sisler of Vermilion, Stella Mae (Larry) Bingham of Colesburg, Kentucky, Wilma Lee Campos of Lorain, Brenda Kay (Butch) Wright, and Bobbie Jo Gerth all of Amherst , Catherine (Hank) Potter of Lorain and her brother Chester Lee (Nereida) Fleming of Florence.

Friends may call Wednesday, March 19, 2014, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Hempel Funeral Home; 373 Cleveland Ave., Amherst. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. at Henrietta United Methodist Church; 52148 SR 113, Birmingham. The Rev. Armando Arellano, pastor, will officiate.
