Hiram Clark LaGrone, the son of Andrew Jackson LaGrone and Lucinda Clementine Gibbs, was born December 21, 1847 in Linus (later Deadwood), Panola County, Texas. He served nearly two years in the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

Hiram and his first wife Margaret Emma Potts were married June 20, 1867 in Deadwood. They joined the New Prospect Baptist Church there on September 10, 1871. They had no children. Hiram and second wife Ellen (Joiner) Gibbs were married in Deadwood on May 30 1872 by Parson T. V. Morris. With this marriage Hiram gained a two year old step-daughter named Mattie Gibbs. Hiram and Ellen had six children of their own. After Ellen's death in 1885 he married Sally Salina Bozeman. They were the parents of 8 children.

Hiram was a merchant for seventeen years and the owner of sawmills and gins. Three of his sons became preachers. He died on December 3, 1928 in Shreveport, Caddo Parish, Louisiana at the age of 80 years, 11 months and 12 days. He was buried in the Deadwood Cemetery in Deadwood, Panola County, Texas.
