He enlisted as a Private in the Union Army on 23 Oct 1861 at Mt Pleasant, IA in Co D, 4th Iowa Cavalry. Discharged on 28 Jul 1863 on a Surgeon's Certificate of Disability at Bridgeport, MS.
Edward married Miss Martha Reynolds, on 28 Feb 1865 in Masonville, Delaware Co, NY.
Martha and Edward had three daughters: Jennifer, Frances E and Edith Mae.
On 02 Jun 1883, Edward was "Mustered In" as a Member of the Grand Army of the Republic (G.A.R.) - Lewis L. Eggleston Post #184, Deposit, Broome Co, NY - G.A.R. Membership No. 72.
He was a farmer by trade.
Edward died on 29 Apr 1910 at his home at 11 Foot Hill Street, in the Town of Sanford, Village of Deposit, Broome Co, NY, aged 73 Years and 16 Days.
