The Commonwealth war graves commission put the current headstone there as Albert served in the 1st world war. The Headstone is actually incorrect, Albert was small in stature only standing 5'4" but big in heart and bravery. Albert left his children in the care of his sister and joined the army at 40 years of age to fight in WW1. He fought in England, France and Egypt. He was wounded in action having been shot in the leg. He was a bit of a larrikin getting himself into trouble by being drunk on duty or going AWOL. He did however serve with distinction and was discharged due to servere bouts of bronchitis. He passed away in Melbourne age 70. Albert before joining the army was a miner working at the Long Tunnel Extended Mine at Walhalla Victoria.
