Author, Artist. He became well-known in Europe for his visual art after World War I (where he had served in the Imperial German Navy), painting numerous paintings, publishing and performing poetry, and performing in satirical live performances that could be classified in the modern day as stand-up comedy. "Joachim Ringelnatz" was his pseudonym for his performances. After the Nazi Party came into power, he was banned from performing as under their classification as "degenerate art".
