daughter of Stanley D & Lois Mae (O'Hara) Harris
-----------------------
Vickie Lynn Harris passed away unexpectedly on March 4, 2020 at the age of 68 at her residence. Vickie is survived by her sisters Barbara (Lou) Pieczonka, Kathy (Dan) Giannini, Gayle Pridemore, and brothers Dale (Kaecy) Harris and Michael Harris, along with many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her Mother Lois Harris, her brother Jim Harris and Grandparents Lucille and James O’Hara.

Vickie spent most of her life overcoming intellectual and physical disabilities by finding ways to make her life meaningful and focus on what she could do rather than what she couldn’t. Over the past 40 years, Vickie enjoyed working through programs such as The Star Center, Stepping Stones, and the Active Day Kidd Center. Vickie was transported to work daily where she participated in programs such as: Operation Christmas Child where she would pack boxes with toys and other items for children of third world countries, Kidd Kindness Day where she would paint rocks with inspirational sayings that would be passed out into the community, and packing boxes with items for deployed soldiers. Her work also consisted of sorting items such as cake toppers for bakeries, screws, soaps etc.

When not working, Vickie enjoyed coloring, caring for her baby dolls, reading her Bible, attending church, visits from her sisters Barbara and Kathy, and participating in resident activities at Harmony Court.

Vickie was witty, funny and could feel unbridled happiness. She could love without condition and she exemplified perseverance and inner strength. Strength is found in those who keep on going, keep trying, day after day, long after others give up. In this way, she was a hero. She gave the gift of perspective. Vickie reminded others that most problems are not really problems, and to be grateful for what we have. And finally, Vickie gave the gift of beauty. Vickie was like the many colors in a crayon box, beautiful inside and out. Her life wasn’t easy, and it wasn’t glamorous, but she taught us that we can see past the difficulties and find the beauty, there is always beauty.
