Fred Gray, 73
Rockford - Fred Gray, 73, of Rockford, died Saturday, Sept. 16, 2000, in his home. Born Nov. 18, 1926, in Shell Mound, Tenn., the son of Joe and Leatha Colvin Gray. Married Alice Evelyn Ware in Rockford June 10, 1950. He was a machine operator at the Mechanics Division of Borg Warner for 35 years, retiring in 1985. He then worked for Dynamic Tool Company for 10 years after his retirement. Army veteran of World War II. He enjoyed wood cutting, camping and fishing in his spare time. Survivors include wife, Alice; two daughters, Bonnie (Royal) Taylor, of Rockford and Beverly (Melvin) Carre of Machesney Park; son, Stephen (Darla) Gray of Machesney Park; special son Gary Ferguson of Rockford; three sisters, Virgie Davis, Margie Stone, and Betty Gill, all of Tennessee; three brothers, Wilson (Mary), Woodrow (Velma) and Aaron (Ilene) Gray, all of Rockford; eight grandchildren, Dawn (Erik) Derr, Chris Carre, Lisa (Rusty) Sergent, Shannon (Priscilla Williamson) Carre, Shane Gray, Michelle Carre, and Matt and Ashley Kiefert; two great-granchildren, Kelsey and Brandon Carre. Predeceased by parents; four sisters; two brothers; and son, Paul Richard Gray.
Services at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20 in Julian-Poorman-Welte Funeral Home, with Rev. Don Stone officiating. Burial in Sunset Memorial Gardens. Visitation from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday in funeral home. Memorials in care of the family. 9-19-2
