Elizabeth was the daughter of Jacob and Hannah Oberholtzer. She was member of a large family—Jacob and Hannah had 14 children (three died in infancy). She grew up in Waterloo Township, Ontario, on a farm just west of what was then the Town of Berlin (now Kitchener). Besides being a farmer, her father was an ordained minister in the Mennonite church.

Elizabeth married David Taylor, on March 21, 1865, in Waterloo, Ontario. The couple farmed in Howick Township, Huron County, Ontario. They had 11 known children:
- Mary Jane (1865-?)
- Elizabeth A. (1867-1938)
- Rosa Bella (1869-1938)
- Magdalene Melvina (1871-1949)
- James Franklin (1873-1873)
- Hannah Maria 1874-1953)
- Stephen David (1876-1957)
- John Andrew (1879-1936)
- Ella Nora (1881-1964)
- Thomas Clarence (1884-?)
- Minerva Frances (1886-1954)

On April 6, 1889, Elizabeth died at the age of 44 years. The cause of death was double pneumonia.
