Frank Dudley Prewitt

Frank Dudley Prewitt, 75, a retired school administrator, died April 22 at Winona Manor after a lengthy illness.

Services were held at the First Baptist Church, where he was a member, at 2 p.m., April 24 with the Reverend Tommy Arinder, pastor of Bassfield Baptist Church and a former pupil of Mr. Prewitt, officiating. Assisting were the Reverend Harold Richardson, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, and Dr. Jerry Mixon, pastor of First Baptist Church in Winona.

Pallbearers were Dr. Bob Sumrall, Sam Sumrall, R. T. McCool Jr., Billy Bufkin, Paul Hood, and Aubrey Boone.

Burial was in Stonewall Cemetery near Ethel.

The son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Charles F. Prewitt, he was born in Attala County and married to Beatrice Bell. He received his B. S. degree from Mississippi College and did graduate work at the University of Alabama before receiving his master's degree from Mississippi State.

He served as school administrator in the Ethel, McAdams, and Vaiden school systems before retiring in 1971 from the Picayune School System.

He is survived by his wife, Beatrice Bell Prewitt of Winona; his step-mother, Mrs. Charles F. Prewitt of Kosciusko; two sons, Wiley C. of Winona and Frank D. Jr. of Jackson, a brother, James of Crystal Springs; and four sisters, Mrs. R. C. Berry of Tylertown, Mrs. Ed Lindsey of Dallas, Mrs. Charles Fancher of Green-ville, and Mrs. Charles Burchfield of Kosciusko.

He also leaves four grandchildren, Wiley Charles Prewitt Jr. and Joseph W. Prewitt. both of Winona; and Amanda P. Prewitt and F. Dudley Prewitt, both of Jackson.

Oliver Funeral Home of Winona was in charge of the arrangements.

Frank Dudley Prewitt began his career in education at the Ethel High School as mathematics teacher and coach. After three years there, he went to McAdams as superintendent, serving there seven years, before spending 25 years as superintendent and principal in the Vaiden, MS school system.

He received his B.A. degree in science and math in 1931 at Mississippi College, and his master's degree in education at Mississippi State University in 1955.

After leaving Vaiden at the end of the 1966-1967 school year, Mr. Prewitt served as Assistant Superintendent with the Picayune School District from Fall 1967 through Spring 1972.

Mr. Prewitt was the son of Charles Feemster Prewitt and Beatrice "Lilly Bee" Black. He married Beatrice Bell, daughter of Wiley Bell (1885-1953) and Sarah Ardella (Arabella) "Sallie" Adams (1887-1971). She was a descendant of Charles and Esther Bell of County Antrim, Ireland. Her brothers and sisters were Annie Bell (b. 1908), Frank Adams Bell, Sara Katherine Bell McCool, and Arthur Leroy Bell.

Mr. and Mrs. Prewitt had two sons: Wiley Charles Prewitt, Sr. (b. 1939) and Frank Dudley Prewitt (b. 1942).
