Edward Lee Crisp, 58, of Oberlin, very active in sports for young people for many years, died Saturday night at Allen Memorial Hospital where he was a patient several days.

Mr. Crisp served as president of Lorain County Hot Stove League Umpires and was a member of the Umpires Federation for many years. He coached football and basketball, contributed time at Lincoln Field and Subway Field in Lorain during summer months and organized play programs for children.

A native of Marigold, Miss., Mr. Crisp lived in Oberlin 30 years coming from Lorain. He was custodian at Phillips Gymnasium at Oberlin College.

An active member of Rust United Methodist Church, Mr. Crisp was a certified lay speaker for the church, a former superintendent of the Sunday School and a Sunday School teacher. He was a member of Black Methodist for Church Renewal and Ohio Republican Council.

A 32nd degree Mason, Mr. Crisp ws a past master of Masonic Central Star Lodge 73.

Surviving are his wife, Sarah, two sons, three daughters, 14 grandchildren, five brothers and four sisters.

Friends will be received today from 7 to 9 p.m. and tomorrow, 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Cowling Funeral Home, Oberlin, where a Masonic service will be held tomorrow at 8 p.m.

The funeral will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at Rust United Methodist Church with the Rev. Shepherd Harkness officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
