Stella Frances Smith, daughter of Francis Marion and Kezih Jane (Beery) Smith, was born June 26, 1885, on a farm near Mayetta, Kansas. She pased away in the Holton Hospital, Sunday, January 26, 1958.

She was married to Hugh Jackson Baker on August 9, 1908. To this union was born three daughters: Mabel Marie, Mildred Pauline and Frances Josephine. After sevral years this marriage was dissolved. She almost single-handed reared her daughters to splendid womanhood.

On December 4, 1935, she was married to Clarence O. Betcher. Her entire life was lived among friends in the Mayetta community. She was a member of the Mayetta Methodist Church.

Surviving her are her husband, Clarence Betcher of the home; three daughters: Mrs. Mabel Snavely, Silver Lake, Kansas; Mrs. Mildred Robson, Topeka; Mrs. Frances Johnson, Kansas City, Kansas; a stepson, Lloyd Betcher, Topeka, a brother, Jerry Smith, Mayeta, 7 grandchildren and one great grandchild; other relatives and a host of neighbors and friends. Truly, she was a splendid wife, and a wonderful mother and excellent neighbor.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 29 at the Mayetta Methodist church. Burial was in the Holton Cemetery. Mercer Funeral Home in charge.
