Richard Henry Berger , 77, of Lebanon, Mo., formerly of Norway, died Sunday, Aug. 8, 2004, in Springfield, Mo. Memorial services: 11 a.m. Friday at Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories, Cedar Rapids. Inurnment: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery, Cedar Rapids.
The Rev. David Mosher of Trinity Lutheran Church in Walford will officiate.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Sears and husband John of Claremore, Okla.; his sons, Daniel Berger of Dubuque and Philip Berger and wife Diana of Lebanon, Mo.; his grandchildren, Emily Dornbush of Rockford, Ill., Lydia Berger of Chicago and Theresa Berger of Dubuque; his stepgrandchildren, Benjamen Gandschow, Amanda Anderson and Micheal Gandschow; his brother, George Berger of Norway; and his sisters, Carolyn Craw of Las Vegas and Violet Olds of Eldridge.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Joyce; and a brother, Max Berger .

Richard was born March 25, 1927, in South Amana, to Arnold and Clara (Baumgartner) Berger . He married his wife of 53 years, Joyce Christine Yarbrough, on Dec. 26, 1947, in Columbus, Ga. Richard farmed for 50 years in Norway. He was also a DeKalb seed corn dealer for many years in the area. After farming, in 1986, he and Joyce enjoyed 10 years in Phoenix before moving to Lebanon, Mo. He had various part time jobs, but was always a farmer at heart. Richard was a life member of the Norway American Legion, later transferring to the Lebanon, Mo., post. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge and sang with the Chanters of El Kahir Shrine when he lived in Norway. He enjoyed playing cards and games and time spent with his family and friends. He was a kind and generous father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.
