Joseph Stevenson was born on Oct. 19, 1787 at Barsby, Ashby Folville, Leic, England to Edward Stevenson and Elizabeth Marriott. Joseph Stevenson was christened on Oct. 21, 1787 at Barsby, Ashby Folville, Leicester, England. Joseph Stevenson married Elizabeth Stevens on June 28, 1812. St. Saviors (now Southwark), London, London, England. "Elizabeth left for the British colony of Gibraltar with her husband Joseph Stevenson, and their two young sons, William and Joseph. Her husband was assigned as a cooper there. They had four other children born at Gibraltar: Henry D., *Edward, Elizabeth, and Mary. They left Gibraltar for the United States, and arrived, 18 July 1828, on the ship "Constitution" there son, James was born in Albany, Jefferson county, New York. About 1830, they moved westward and eventually settled twenty-four miles north of Detroit near Pontiac, Michigan and purchased some wild land there. Joseph built a two story house, and finally bought out a Mr. Juss. It was an improved farm. They were well situated and Joseph had plans to improve his property, but died in about September of 1832 before he could fulfill his dreams. Joseph Stevenson died in 1832 at Pontiac Oakland, Michigan and was buried there in 1832. She died on March 20th 1873 at Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County, Utah. She was buried at Salt Lake City Cemetery, Salt Lake City, Salt Lake County Utah on March 22, 1873." Elizabeth was baptized before 1833. In October 1834 Joseph Smith visited the Stevenson home.
