Howard Lee Black was born on November 12, 1933 and passed away on March 7, 2020.

Born in Monesson, PA on November 12, 1933, Howard grew up in McKeesport, PA and graduated from McKeesport High School in 1951. Howard had many passions, including playing in the high school band as well as playing good old fashioned sandlot football with his friends. He also loved dancing, which carried over into being a competitive pair roller skater.

Howard was drafted for the military, however, he took it upon himself to enlist in the United States Marine Corps. He served our country for 20 years completing 2 tours in Vietnam and stationed in various countries throughout the world. Howard was also in the Marine Corp Band and developed the ability to play any instrument. In addition to his passion for music during his time of service, he also earned a second-degree black belt in Judo.

After retirement from the Marines, Howard began his civilian life in San Diego where he owned and ran 2 music stores with the ability to play and repair any instrument.

As a lifelong learner, Howard obtained his Associate's degree and later his Bachelor's degree in Nursing and became a Registered Nurse (RN). With his knowledge and passion to help others, he ascended to become the Nursing Supervisor at the VA Hospital and later Balboa Naval Hospital.
During his time at Balboa, he also owned and operated The California Club, a family restaurant and bar. Not being content and always wanting more, Howard obtained an MBA at the young age of 66. This helped him transition into a different path and he finished his career as a Health Facilities Evaluator Nurse for the California Department of Health Services.

One of the past times Howard enjoyed was fishing. Close friends & family can tell many stories of their time fishing with him. During all these years, Howard was very involved with his family and children that was demonstrated by touching the lives of children through volunteering and coaching of their many activities.

Sister- Gail (Cookie) Odorcich of McKeesport, PA. Sister- Linda Hitchens of Riverside, CA. Sister- Fae Leber of McKeesport, PA. Sister- Dawn Pensy of Magnolia, OH. Sister- Dianne McKay and husband Mark of Powhatan Point, OH. Son- Howard L. Black III and grandchildren Katie Ann and Daniel of Long Beach, CA. Son- Edmund Black, wife Roberta, granddaughters Amanda and Vanessa, and great-grandchildren Alaurna, Drake, Arlen, and Avonna of McKeesport, PA. Son- Norman Black and grandson Norman Jr. (Bubba) of San Diego, CA. Daughter- Dawn Spielman, husband Scott, and granddaughters Madison and Savannah of Temecula, CA. Grandson- Jason Fagaros.
