Mr. Long retired from the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture after 27 years of service. He served in the U.S. Air Force. He was a member of the American Checkers Federation and held the state championship for two years in Mississippi and one year in Louisiana. He was a member of Central Baptist Church in McComb, MS.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Vivian Nunery Wells; his father, Matt long, Sr; one stepbrother, Marvin Long; and one stepsister, Annette Long Giacone.

He was survived by his wife, Lois Baham Kanode Long of Keller, TX; his stepson, Leonard Cecil Kanode and wife Nell of Keller, TX; his stepdaughter, Lois Kanode Rodenberry and husband Howard of Carlys, LA; his brother, Jim Long of McComb, MS; his stepmother, Annette Long of McComb, MS; 7 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
