Mildred Elaine (Gruber) Murray, 97, formerly of Putter Drive, in Hagerstown, passed away Monday, March 9, 2020 at Doey's House.

Born April 6, 1922 in Hagerstown, she was the daughter of the late Isaac Edward and Esther Lee (Zeigler) Gruber. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Russell Murray, Jr.; a brother, Preston Gruber; and two sisters, Margaret E. Kauffman, and Virginia Kelbaugh.

Mildred was a 1940 graduate of Hagerstown High School.

She retired as a payroll clerk for Montgomery Ward in Altoona, PA. She also worked as a homemaker.

She was a golden member of Grace United Methodist Church in Hagerstown, where she taught Sunday school and was a member of the church choir and the Willing Workers Sunday school class.

Mildred was an auxiliary member of the Morris Frock American Legion Post No. 42; Hagerstown Lioness Club; and the Hagerstown Elk's Club. She was also former commissioner for the Boy Scouts, where she was a Den Mother, in York, PA.

She is survived by her two sons, Michael Eugene Murray of Glendale, AZ, and John Edward Murray of Hagerstown; a brother, Harry Edward Gruber of Aberdeen, MD; two grandchildren, Michael Paul Murray and Mary Elizabeth Murray; a great-granddaughter, Mikaela VonGerichten; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, March 11, 2020 at Rest Haven Funeral Home, 1601 Pennsylvania Ave., Hagerstown, with Rev. Margaret Clemons officiating. She will be laid to rest beside of her husband in Rest Haven Cemetery, following the service.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mildred's name to Grace United Methodist Church, 712 W Church St, Hagerstown, MD 21740.
