Martin lived in Menard Co., IL for a number of years and that is where his Father and Mother are buried.
Martin came to great bend KS in 1877. at age 45 years, engaged in the livery stable business until retired about 1900. In early days he and Col E.W. Chafee were the only auctioneers in that part of the state. known as a shrewed man at a bargain. a good trader, and after retiring from business maintained his propersity to trading of pocket knieves.
Lived for a number of years on Forest ave with his widowed sister for whom he provided a home. after her death he sold the property and had boareded in several places, for the last year lived in a home where he died with the King family.
Died at home 823 Murphy st., Great Bend. had been sick with pneumonia for 2 weeks and was care for by his nephew, William Cone.
