Mr. Spence was a three-year resident of Diamondhead, MS and a former resident of Tampa, FL. He was an independent insurance agent for more than 40 years. He was also the developer of the Woodland Ridge Town Homes in McComb, MS. He was the president of Lazy-Bones, Inc., golf shoes for women. He served as an officer in the U.S. Air Force. He graduated from Auburn University. He was awarded a football scholarship and served as quarterback for the Tigers. He was a member of the Diamondhead United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Spence.

He was survived by his wife, Betty Lou Cowart Spence; one daughter, Laura Lee Spence Edwards; three sons, William Dudley Spence, Craig Allen Spence and James Bradly Spence, all of Tampa, FL; one stepdaughter, Jamie Brill of Belle Chasse, LA; his mother and stepfather, Mildred McEwen Wood and Glen Wood, Sr. of McComb, MS; one sister, Bettye Spence Scott of Niceville, FL; 3 grandchildren and 5 stepgrandchildren.
