Laura “Ellen” Vance, age 55, of Swords Creek, Virginia, passed away Sunday (March 8, 2020) in a Johnson City, Tennessee hospital. Born June 24, 1964 in Richlands, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late William Jones and Violet Virginia Spencer Kitts. She had spent most of her life in the Swords
Creek area and was a 1982 graduate of Honaker High School. She enjoyed writing poems and children’s stories, but most of all she loved spending time with her family.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one daughter Rhonda Michelle Vance, father-in-law, William "Burb" Vance and brother-in-law, Billy Vance.
Survivors include her husband of thirty-seven years, Robert Shawn Vance, Sr.; three children, Shawna Slagle and husband, Matt of Bristol, Tennessee, Robert Shawn Vance, Jr. and wife, Amber of Lebanon, and William Jeffery Vance of the home; six grandchildren, Natalie Vance, Collin Hankins, Connor Hankins, Ava Vance, Lindsey Slagle, and Sarah Slagle; four siblings, Susan Bond and husband, JR, Patricia Groce, Kathy Kitts, and Douglas Kitts; mother-in-law, Thelma Vance; brother-in-law, Dwayne Vance; sister-in-law, Linda Hatfield Vance and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wednesday in the Honaker Funeral Home Chapel, Honaker, Virginia with Rev. Phillip Cook officiating. Interment will follow in the Ward Cemetery at Swords Creek, Virginia.
Pallbearers will be Matt Slagle, C.J. Tuggle, Devon Vance, Matthew Shifflett, Marcus Shifflett, Joe Sweeney and Andy Kitts
Honorary pallbearers will be Dwayne Vance, Anthony Price, JR Bond and nephews .
