Obituary:
Lt. Barry Michael Richardson, 60, Elizabethton, passed away Friday, May 15, 2015 at his residence after a brief illness. A native of Carter County, he was a son of the late Woodrow & Betty Oliver Richardson. Barry was a 1973 graduate of Unaka High School. He had been an employee of the Johnson City Fire Department for the past 26 years. He was also a lifetime member of the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department. Barry was a member of the Johnson City Professional Firefighters Association Local 1791. He was of the Baptist Faith. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a Step-daughter Jennifer Dugger.
Survivors include his wife of 18 years: Tommie Burgner Richardson. His Children: Erica Winters and husband Billy and Allison Fisher and Dylan Richardson all of Elizabethton. His Step-Children: Amber Markland and Brian Markland both of Elizabethton. His Grandchildren: Andy, Colton, Emilee, Emma, Liam, Lucy and Tempi. His Sisters: Lynne Mattox, of Florida, Wendy Gass both of Elizabethton and Penny Eggers of Georgia. His Brothers: Rick Richardson, Sneads Ferry, North Carolina, Randy Richardson, Knoxville and Jeff Richardson, Elizabethton. Several nieces & nephews. His Father & Mother-In-Law: David & Jane Burgner, Erwin.
A Memorial Service will be conducted at 2 p.m.,. Saturday, May 23, 2015 in Memorial Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Estil Williams officiating. Inurnment will be in the Ensor Cemetery following the funeral service. The Johnson City Fire Department will provide an Honor Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Members of the Johnson City Fire Department , members of the Stoney Creek Volunteer Fire Department and members of the1973 graduating Class, Unaka High School. The family will receive friends from 12 noon Saturday until the service hour. The family would like to express a special “Thank You” to the Johnson City Professional Firefighters Assn. Local 1791. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Barry to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 1000, Dept. 142, Memphis, Tennessee 38101-9908.
