Sherry Jean Bennett of Vinita passed away on March 5, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Fort Smith, Ark. She was 72 years old.
Sherry was born on March 9, 1944 in Afton, Okla. to Victor and Ruby (Oakley) Austin.
Sherry was raised in Ketchum and attended schools in Afton, graduating from Afton High School in 1963. She married Bruce Clayton Bennett on December 18, 1963 at the Methodist Church in Tahlequah, Okla. Sherry moved to Vinita in 1963 where her husband worked at Eastern State Hospital. They were married for 53 years.
Sherry stayed busy raising four children, for whom she enjoyed cooking and sewing clothes. It was said she could sew up a storm. She was proud to have a tight family that loved helping each other out.
Sherry was preceded in death by her parents, a son, Dennis Dean Bennett, and a daughter, Kristina Bennett.
She is survived by her husband, Bruce; a daughter, Michelle Bennett of Vinita; a son, Bruce Allen Bennett and wife Teresa of Vinita; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren and one on the way.
Graveside services will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at 2 p.m., at Sixkiller Cemetery.
