Don graduated from Cathedral Boys (Griffin) High School where he was the batting champion and played football. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and then went on to earn his bachelor's degree from Sangamon State University. Don was employed with the State of Illinois Department of Insurance as an insurance investigator until his retirement in 2002. He was a member of the Anchor Boat Club and was an avid Chicago Bears, Notre Dame, St. Louis Cardinals, and SHG football fan. Don loved his grandchildren and enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was also preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Robert and William Young.
He is survived by his daughter, Andrea (husband, Steven, Sr.) Mumaw of Sherman; grandchildren, Kaylin of Bloomington, Steven, Jr., Ashley, and Andrew Mumaw all of Sherman; sister-in-law, Sharon Young of Peoria; brother-in-law, Roger (wife, Joanie) Newenham of Dietrich, IL; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Cremation was provided by Butler Cremation Tribute Center prior to ceremonies.
Graveside Ceremony: 1:00 p.m. on Friday, March 13, 2020, at Roselawn Memorial Park with Rev. Dennis Mumaw officiating.
