Kenneth Giles "Ken" Adkins, of Oklahoma City, was a treasure to all who knew him. Ken passed away at his home February 23, 2020. He was born September 3, 1931 in Rosenberg, Texas to the late Ruby Holt Adkins and William Sylvester Adkins.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Jo, his son, Jerry and his siblings, Mildred, Gerald, Vivian and Bill.

Ken graduated from The University of Oklahoma with a degree in petroleum engineering. He was a United States Navy and Korean War veteran, earning the China Service Medal and the National Defense Service Medal. Ken served in the Navy from 1953 to 1983, when he retired at the rank of commander. After his military service, Ken embarked on a career in the oil and gas industry, retiring from Universal Resources in 1999.

Finding his love of flying in the Navy, Ken continued his passion and spent many years at Wiley Post and Sundance Air Park in Oklahoma City in his retirement years. He loved nothing more than commiserating with his "airport cronies" and working on his and others' airplanes. Ken was always there for anyone who needed his help. He was a "super handyman" who could fix just about anything!

Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Janie, Cheri, Donna and Linda; his son, Jon; sons-in-law, Michael and Rick; his grandchildren, Jerri, Paul, Marc, Tanner A., Tanner R., Courtney and Sean and his great-grandchildren, Coraline and Terra.

Graveside services for close family will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2020.

'The purpose of life is not to be happy. It is to be useful, to be honorable, to be compassionate, to have it make a difference that you have lived."
