Socialist and Fabian; husband of Beatrice Webb with whom he famously worked as a team. They wrote their landmeark 'History of Trade Unionism' in 1894. MP in 1922 and became a peer to join the Labour Government of 1929. Later he and his wfie became apologists for Stalinist Russia.('We have seen the future and it works').
