Mr. Slaughter died Aug. 1, 2007, in Madisonville.
He was born Dec. 27, 1916, in Edgewood to the late Leslie Edward and Martha Pearl Jones Slaughter.
He received a bachelor's degree in agriculture education and a master's degree in agriculture economics from Texas A&M University. He was a teacher and a prison warden, probation officer, economic developer and book publisher. He lived in Edgewood the majority of his life, but moved to Huntsville in 2006. He was a member of Texas A&M Alumni Association, Edgewood Lions Club and Cheatham Memorial United Methodist Church. In June 2007, he was inducted into the Lions Club International Hall of Fame.
He was also preceded in death by wives, Nola Faye Knight Slaughter, Maria Luisa Torregrosa Slaughter and Dorothy Lee West Slaughter, son, Dr. Jerry Slaughter, daughter, Anna Jo Cummings, and stepdaughter, Angeles L. Villeda.
Survivors include a son, Henry Leon Slaughter, Jr., El Paso; sister, Leslie Pearl Huddleston, San Antonio; stepchildren, Luisita L. Torregrosa, Amaury Lopez Candal, Tamara, Carmen Lewis, Sara Lawrence and Olga Fajardo; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; several stepgrandchildren; and other relatives.
Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
